Cruelty Free Makeup

Animal testing will have no doubt been a part of the safety testing of many of the ingredients used in makeup made today. Nowadays there is a lot of knowledge and more modern ways of testing meaning that it is no longer deemed the best way to safety test products. Animal testing may be unavoidable in pharmaceuticals but for makeup which isnt an essential to life - I believe cruelty free is best. Especially the amount I buy to run this lovely business!

So whether you haven’t paid it much thought or are an animal lover, perhaps vegan - you have found a luxury but ethical cruelty free makeup artist! My favourite brands include Charlotte Tilbury, Too Faced, Rare Beauty, Vieve , REFY, Delilah Cosmetics to name a few.

A really good website to check a company’s ethics around animal testing is www.crueltyfreekitty.com/

There are so many makeup products on the market and when deciding the brands to buy I made the decision many years ago to only invest in cruelty free makeup. Not many realise that many of the big leading brands like MAC, Bobbi Brown, Estee Lauder all test on animals. It’s a strange situation with modern rules in many countries means they are not testing their products on animals in countries like the UK or USA but when they open the to the Chinese market they do go through testing to be sold in China. This means its a big decision to not sell to China but I am proud of the companies that have not opened to the Chinese market for this reason. Charlotte Tilbury springs to mind- she hasn’t sold to China and this is to retain her cruelty-free status for the well loved makeup brand. This puts pressure on the Chinese to update their barbaric rules of makeup being tested on animals.

I’m the eternal optimist and I am not the only cruelty-free makeup consumer and business owner! I think most would prefer their favourite brand to go cruelty-free and China may change their rules in time.
